GUM DISEASE

WHAT CAUSES GUM DISEASE

Gum disease is an infection of the gums surrounding your teeth and one of the top reasons for tooth loss in adults mainly because you may not even know you have it. It is important to visit your dentist regularly so the professionals can check for signs of the disease and help you to prevent it.

WHAT CAUSES GUM DISEASE?

Gum disease is caused by a build-up of plaque which is will CONTINUALLY be removed through brushing, flossing, and regular dental check-ups. If plaque is not removed properly it will continue to build up and create toxins that can damage the gums.

  • Gingivitis - is the early stage of gum disease when gums become red, swollen, and bleed easily. At this stage, the disease is treatable and can usually be eliminated by proper daily brushing and flossing.
  • Periodontitis - If left untreated, gingivitis will advance into periodontitis, and the gums and bone that support the teeth will become seriously and irreversibly damaged. Gums severely infected with periodontitis can cause teeth to become loose and fall out.

HOW TO TREAT GUM DISEASE?

Treatments for gum disease can vary depending on the severity of each individual case. Typical treatments include:

  • Non-surgical treatments including -scaling & root planing (deep cleaning)
  • Periodontal surgery and laser gum surgery
  • Dental implants if problems are severe enough to cause tooth loss

HOW TO PREVENT GUM INFECTION?

We can prevent periodontal disease by practicing good oral hygiene and visiting our periodontics regularly. You should visit the dentist every six months. But if you already have a gum disease you must visit our clinic immediately. Here at Ramam’s Advanced dental care

Daily brushing and flossing, when done correctly, can help to remove most of the plaque from our teeth. Professional cleanings by a dentist or dental hygienist will keep plaque under control in places that are harder for a toothbrush or floss to reach.

  • Change in Daily Habits to prevent gum disease: Periodontal disease is preventable. A small change in habits in your daily routine can give you long lasting healthy teeth.
  • Brush your teeth after meals: Brushing after meals helps remove food debris and plaque trapped between teeth and gums.
  • Periodontitis - If left untreated, gingivitis will advance into periodontitis, and the gums and bone that support the teeth will become seriously and irreversibly damaged. Gums severely infected with periodontitis can cause teeth to become loose and fall out.
  • Floss: Flossing at least once a day helps remove food particles and plaque between teeth and along the gumline that a toothbrush may not reach.
  • Using mouthwash: Using a mouthwash can help reduce plaque and can remove remaining food particles that brushing and flossing missed.
  • Know your risk: Age, smoking, diet and genetics can all increase the risk for periodontal disease. If you have any, be sure to visit a periodontics as soon as possible.
